Sheldon Yamkovy has been
involved with his native heritage for over a decade. He feels
that dance is very important, showing the richness of cultures.
Descending from European background his Father being Ukrainian
combined with Chipewyan Native Denesoline from his mother. A
native name was given through ceremony as Blue Hawk Weasel Man.
Some Powwow dance began as a ceremonial act. One evolved dance
that is steeped in history and meaning is the grass dance. Being
trained as a Men’s Grass Dancer, Blue Hawk Weasel Man
has added this to his resume of artistic expressions. This includes
credited acting roles in film, television, commercials, Modeling
in magazines, print ads, run way
fashion shows, contemporary dance which has been show cased
at the Canada Dance festival in Ottawa plus the Vancouver’s
Dancing on the Edge Dance Festival, performance presented to
the 2010 Polish Para Olympic team. Sheldon Yamkovy aka Blue
Hawk Weasel Man continues to work in the arts to share his talents
with his community for a wealth of diversity.
