Ishwarya Chaitanya began her training in Bharata Natyam at the age of eight. She then continued her tutelage under her guru Jai Govinda in Vancouver and has been dancing semi-professionally since 2001. She has studied Hndustani and Carnatic music through the harmonium and violin, respectively. She also holds a Bsc in Environmental Science from the University of British Columbia.
